THE social event of the year in Sierra County. Come join the best chefs of the Sierra Nevada in a hot chili cook-off at the Yuba Pass on Highway 49. It’s chef against chef and west against the east. Come early. Judging starts at noonish. Beware, judges have been known to accept signs of gratitude and kindness. Just show up with your chili! No Rules! Judges can be bribed 🙂

Weather is no object! Nothing stops chili. Cooks are there early – come and smell the aroma. Dress warmly, come hungry.

4th of July Weekend Festival & Parade

Parade starts at 12 noon along Main St. The town fills with people who watch and participate!

All parade entries are welcome!! Kids, dogs, families, vehicles, and more! Be creative!

The ultimate small-town parade ends with the infamous “Downieville Fireless Fireworks” which includes participation from everyone to make them “pop!” The event includes “foot races” with categories for age and gender and the races are cheered on along Main Street. All ages are welcome!

Downieville Classic Bike Race

Experience the Downieville Classic, named one of the top 10 bike festivals by Outside Magazine. This annual four-day event features two incredible races: a grueling 26.5-mile cross-country race, and a 15-mile downhill race featuring a 5000 vertical foot drop, the longest and most demanding downhill race in the nation. Besides the races, spectators can have fun watching Ron’s House of Big Air River Jump, the log pull competition, plus lots of food, drinks, and live music. Proceeds from the Downieville Classic help fund the Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship, providing construction and maintenance of trails in the Lost Sierra mountains.

You can experience the challenges of the Downieville Classic race courses throughout the year (weather permitting). Both courses are open to the public except during the week of the Classic.

In its 8th year, the 2024 Brewfest guarantees another great day for beer tasting, all along Main Street in Downieville. Featuring some of the finest craft beers available in Northern California and a variety of food vendors, along with great music.

The Downieville Mountain Brewfest is September 21, 2024 from 2:00 – 6:00 PM, opens @ 10:00 AM for registration. Food starts @ 12:00 noon.

No dogs allowed in the Brewfest area.

Mark your calendars for a spooky good time! October 26th & 27th – it’s back again!! The Annual Downieville Halloween History Tour! Grab your rooms at participating hotels fast, as this event will fill up. This year enjoy expanded offerings! Costumed guides, fun giveaways, and lots of Downieville History told in a fun way that gets kids (and kids at heart) interested!

All tours start across the street from Riverside Mountain Lodge at Tin Cup Diggin’s Park.

Veteran’s Day Parade & Ceremony

The Sierra County Veterans are honored in an Annual Veterans Day Parade that begins in the town center of Downieville. The parade begins with a ringing of the bell to honor fallen veterans. A traditional parade with any and all veterans welcome to march as the town watches on with gratitude for our veterans! The event is held annually on Veteran’s Day around 12 noon.

After the parade, there is a ceremony acknowledging our local veterans and a lunch provided for all veterans by a few kind Sierra County locals.
